Primary Education Council challenges HC order to cancel 36,000 primary teachers in Kolkata

The Primary Education Council challenged the High Court order to cancel 36,000 primary teachers. The council appealed against the order given by Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay to a division bench of the Calcutta High Court on Monday.

Board chairman Gautam Pal had earlier said that they are looking into whether this directive can be challenged legally. The matter was heard on Monday before a division bench of Justice Subrata Talukdar and Justice Supratim Bhattacharya of the Calcutta High Court. According to court sources, the case related to the cancellation of this job can be heard only on Tuesday.

Calcutta High Court Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay had ruled to cancel the recruitment of 36,000 untrained primary teachers. Tarunjyoti Tiwari, the counsel for the plaintiffs, attracted the attention of the judge, demanding amendment in the decision of termination of employment.

Petition filed seeking modification of Calcutta High Court order

He told the court that the number of untrained candidates is not 36 thousand. Means it will be 30 thousand 185. Under the typographical error, the counsel for the plaintiffs sought modification of the judgment. The matter is likely to be heard on Tuesday.

Last Friday, Justice Gangopadhyay of the Calcutta High Court ordered the dismissal of 36,000 primary teachers, citing errors in the recruitment process. During the hearing of the case, Justice Abhijit Ganguly had said that when these 36,000 teachers were appointed, they were not even trained.

Calcutta High Court order challenged in Division Bench

Within a few hours of the judge's order, the Board of Primary Education declared in a press conference that there was no disturbance in the recruitment process. The recruitment has been done as per rules. Even though those 36 thousand teachers were untrained at the time of recruitment, they are not untrained now.

The board had arranged for their two years of training as per the norms of NCTE. He had announced to take action against the court's decision. Accordingly, a challenge was filed in the division bench of the court on Monday. A case was filed in the Calcutta High Court questioning the appointment of the 2016 primary. In that year a total of 42,500 teachers were recruited in various primary schools.

After the order of the Calcutta High Court, the state government was surrounded in the matter of appointment of primary teachers. Opposition parties demanded the resignation of Mamta Banerjee's government.
